Automotive Menu

Overview

To allow control of the heat input into thermal clothing. The NanoControls unit uses a small microcontroller and simple two button interface to provide a small, easy to use controller.
This product is under development.

Outline specification

  • Short circuit and reverse battery protected (although not both together!)
  • Transient over-voltage protected
  • Minimum 60W power handling at 12V
  • Low quiescent (off state) current ~1mA
  • Waterproof switches and electronics (IP67)
  • LED status indicator flashes proportionately with the temperature setting.
  • 16 heat settings and OFF state.
  • 20 second full power start-up boost to overcome thermal lag.
  • Default to half power after start-up sequence.
  • Pulse Width Modulated output frequency: 20Hz

Operation

To allow the user to quickly set the controller to a known state:

  • Simple user interface with two colour coded buttons (RED for "make it hotter", BLUE for "make it colder")
Each time a button is clicked it moves to the next heat setting.
  • Press both buttons simultaneously to set the controller to half power.
  • Press BLUE for > 1second to switch OFF.
  • Press RED for > 1 second to switch to full power.

Connections

Two "Figure-of-8" cables, each marked with a tracer. One connects to 12V, it is highly recommended that a 10A maximum fuse be included in the circuit. The other cable connects to the heater. Note that the + is a common straight through connection.
