In 1994 Timothy Birt founded TEB Technology as a business start-up. Initially the business built specialist automotive control products (for example dynamo regulators); over time, the business increased and diversified into a wider product range. Many of our current products are built in modest quantities and tailored to solve particular customer needs. In 2002 the company was renamed NanoControls, which more accurately represented what we do now.

We had to include this because he really does look his caricature...

Timothy has been involved with analogue & digital electronics including micro-processors for over 20 years. He studied production Engineering at Brunel University (West London) and then went to work with a small company specialising in the repair of electric motors. His significant development work including the design and construction of numerous pieces of test equipment enabled the company to handle more specialist items such as 'Brushless DC' and servo motors as well as branching out into other electro-mechanical devices.

We are situated in mid-Norfolk, see map. As well as the design office we have a small production facility; this is supported with a network of local companies to help with such things as PCB production and product distribution.

NanoControls works in three distinct, but related, fields:

  1. Design and production of control devices and instrumentation, primarily using automotive system voltages, examples include:
    • Automotive dynamo regulator
    • Power limiters (motor soft starter and voltage stabilisers)
    • Battery monitoring and other parameter measuring such as magnetic field strength

  2. NanoControls can produce some very cost effective dedicated test equipment to control and test small electronic and electromechanical devices, examples include:
    • Miniature printer mechanism (point of sale)
    • Brushless DC motor drives
    • Dedicated PCB test equipment, allowing less skilled workers to repair complex boards.

  3. Following the construction of many pieces of test equipment over the years, we have developed a series of "nano-computer" modules and a proprietary control language. We use these to aid the development of our test equipment.
    • We are in the process of documenting and preparing a new module which will be available in its own right.
